Rosebank Elementary

An important part about gardening and connecting people with food is education for the next generation to understand where food comes from! We often partner with Plant the Seed and do larger installations for their garden education program. Plant the Seed is a non-profit that provides experiential education through garden-based learning to school children ages 4-14.

One of Plant the Seed’s sites is at Rosebank Elementary. Take a look at these photos over the years as we’ve installed and added to this garden education space. The swale catches water runoff from the hill and demonstrates a drought resistant technique. Trees can be planted in the berm where they’ll be able to access water from the water in the swale. Many of the raised beds at this school are in hexagon shapes, inspired by the honey bee! This has added practical implications, as it provides better access, allowing more children to gather around the beds and learn with their hands in the soil.
